Luca Cristiano's Polaroid Works exhibition celebrates the raw, tactile essence of instant photography through his trusted Polaroid 600 camera. By embracing the unpredictable chemistry and immediacy of Polaroid film, Cristiano captures fleeting moments of urban life, transforming ordinary scenes into profound reflections on authenticity in an era of digital filters. This collection highlights his mastery of analog processes, where each print emerges as a unique artifact, encouraging viewers to engage with photography beyond the screen and appreciate the intimate, hands-on dialogue between artist, medium, and subject.

Digital Photography | A photograph of a Polaroid Emulsion Floating in Pyrex Glass | Archival Pigment Print
This is a digital photograph I took of a color polaroid emulsion suspended in water a few years ago. It’s a portrait I took of Ms. A wearing a big dress and Tiara during a busy summer evening in Chicago.
After I shot it I returned quickly before the polaroid film cured fully. I opened the polaroid with a blade and placed It in water to free the emulsion from the polaroids surface.
My original intention was to do a simple emulsion lift to paper but the emulsion began to tear and I just wasn’t in the mood to carefully toy with it so I abandoned the project however at the last second I decided to photograph it in the water with my Nikon.
The photograph I took of it was a bit of a careless act in the sense that I just shot it without additional light or tripod.
I forgot about the image until I rediscovered it two years later while browsing my larger catalogue of photographs.
